丙三醇，国家标准称为甘油，无色、无臭、味甜，外观呈澄明黏稠液态，是一种有机物。俗称甘油。甘油，1779年由斯柴尔（Scheel）首先发现，1823年人们认识到油脂成分中含有Chevreul,希腊语为甘甜的意思，因此命名为甘油（Glycerine）

The glycerol backbone is found in all lipids known as triglycerides. It is widely used in the food industry as a sweetener and humectant and in pharmaceutical formulations. Glycerol has three hydroxyl groups that are responsible for its solubility in water and its hygroscopic nature.
